2006: The Year of "Coming Out"

Just came from the hospital to pick up mama, who was visiting a relative confined since Saturday. I opted to stay up late cause it's too cold inside my room and despite negotiations my sister still insisted to keep the air conditioning on. I'm having a hard time sleeping because of my three day old colds, my nose just feels so stuffed.

I'm currently checkin my email and I was taken a-back ...

I dub thee "2006 : The Year of "COMING OUT"

A number of foreign and local celebrities decided to finally come out of the closet and proudly announce their chosen sexuality. I just posted an entry regarding Darren Hayes "coming out" and a few days after that another celebrity stepped out of the closet. Whoah, I was surprised, never thought that he was one. Recent revelations only left me with one conclusion : The Gay community has a lot of super fine men, Damn gay guys are hot!

The following male celebrities, foreign and local, decided to finally come out:
1. Rustom Padilla
2. Jared Leto he took it back?
3.Darren Hayes
4. Piolo Pascual ( a good year to finally come out and follow the trend)
5. Clay Aiken (after that Idol appearance... He didn't have to say it)

and the newest addition...

6. Lance Bass of the defunct NSYNC.

Rubber Glue Back to You (me)

Way back in the 1990's, my sister and her friends were so into "boy bands". I didn't understand why they were so into it considering that only two out of the five members were singing and the other members served as backdrops/ eye candy. I often teased my sister and mimic one of the singers on how obviously gay he was, the way he pouts his lips ala vogue, Harhar laughtrip. I knew that she had a big crush on him, so when he finally "came out" and admitted that he is gay. I teased her even more and played the "I told you so" over and over until she gets irritated . Now whenever I remind her of her former "obsession" she gives me the smirk and says "that was then, ok?!?".

I'm a big fan of the defunct Australian pop duo Savage Garden since 1998 and the recent development on the former frontman Darren Hayes shocked me, rubber glue back to me!

WEDDING BLUES

Darren Hayes is gay. Get over it. Since the former Savage Garden frontman announced that he had married his British boyfriend of two years, Richard Cullen, in a civil partnership ceremony in London on June 19, his many devoted female fans are struggling to come to terms with the fact that there was now a zero per cent chance they will ever marry the man, as opposed to the 0.00001 per cent possibility that existed previously.

Hayes's unexpected nuptials have resulted in many a cri de couer across the land. One young female was moved to forgiving words on his official website, saying she was still happy for him nevertheless and "it doesn't matter that he is gay or bisexual".

"I will love yooooou 4ever thanks 4 your courage daz," an Italian fan gushed.

Male fans have their own hurdles to jump, like this fan who was still coming to terms with his feelings, in a number of senses: "Imagine, the man that I've idolised, loved and cherished for soooo many years is gay? It is easy to accept that for women but not for men. Until now, I can't stop thinking about it."

Undeniably there is a twig of disappointment whenever someone we look up to suddenly is "unavailable and gay". Come to think of it, there were a lot of clues dropped ever since "Savage Garden" started. Music videos released by the former band, Darren have shown certain expressions that suggest his sexuality but always thought (or probably I was just in denial/ blinded by admiration) that he was just so passionate about his craft. Now that he is finally out, as a fan I admire him more than ever. It took a lot of courage and is certainly a big risk for him to admit that he is gay and married. I'm still digesting the thought that he is gay but nevertheless this issue would not affect my admiration for Mr. Hayes and his music.

Manny Pacquiao

Woke up early to day for the Pacquiao-Morales match. My parents, uncle and cousin on the other hand had tickets for the big screen uninterrupted version of the fight. If I’m not mistaken they paid 300 bucks per seat. I don’t mind commercials; I can spend the 300 on other important items. The program started with Jimrex Jacas’ winning TKO. It’s his international debut fight with Mexican Geronimo Hernandez, he’s a promising fighter. Pacquiao-Morales bout surpassed the crowds’ expectations, considering that they were both great fighters in their respective turfs. They exhibited great sportsmanship and just gave their very best. It was noticeable that Morales’ endurance was quickly fading round after round with Manny attacking his body. Never the less he still fought even after he dropped or rather lost his balance. Finally, under a minute remaining in the 10th round Pacquiao finally put away the valiant Morales when he dropped him with a left. Morales still stood up at the count of nine, but Pacquiao quickly punches and again plummeting Morales, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight.

Here in the Philippines, the media can’t help but make a big circus out of this event. Good thing Manny won or else all of that hyped media would just be wasted.

Pussycat Dolls lead singer is proudly Pinay

I'd like to share this article regarding the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.

She's lead vocalist of The Pussycat Dolls. And she's proud of her Filipino roots. Sultry, outspoken Nicole Scherzinger was born in Hawaii, but traces her roots to Batanes Islands.

In a recent interview with MYX in Bangkok, Nicole says she's a Lea Salonga fan and grew up listening to the music of the Tony award-winning performer. Nicole adds that although she has never been to the Philippines, she'd love to visit the country and "be around people that kinda look like me." Her pride in being Filipina stems from the fact that just like her family, Nicole thinks Filipinos have a lot of heart. In fact,
Nicole, has taken it upon herself to represent the Filipinos in the States, where she grew up. Aside from Nicole, other members of the song-and-dance group are Jessica Sutta, one-time captain of the Miami Heat dance troupe; Carmi Bachar, the La Vida Loca girl on Ricky Martin's world tour; Hollywood dancers Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt and; stunning singer Meloy Thornton.

The Pussycat Dolls have just released their debut album under MCA Music. Their album boasts of two chartbusters, the carrier track Don't Cha dominated the radio charts for months and the sophomore
outing Stick with U is also doing well.

Lea, Constantine and MiG

I was watching the news this afternoon, not paying too much attention on the telly, as if the news just literally passes through ear to ear. I went to the kitchen to fix me some dinner when low and behold did my ears deceive me Constantine is here in the Philippines I rushed back in front of TV , taken a back, Constantine Maroulis (from American Idol 4) in Greenbelt belting away Bohemian Rhapsody. Not yet fully recovered, my sister mentioned Hey Mig Ayesa is also here in Manila. OMG! Is this for real??? Why am I not informed about this? How could I not know this? This was all of the questions playing in my head.

Both of them arrived early this morning, both took Philippine Airlines Flight 103 from Los Angeles and will be in the country to do several shows. Constantine Maroulis is here to have a series of mall concerts entitled Constantine Maroulis Live at Ayala Malls. The Ayala Malls series are as follows:

17th of November, Thursday 8 p.m.
Where: Greenbelt 3 Park in Makati City

18th of November, Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Activity Center of the Alabang Town Center

19th of November, Saturday, 8:30 p.m.
Where: Ayala Center Cebu, Food & Entertainment fountain area

MiG Ayesa (19th Philippine Advertising Congress with Lea Salonga in Cebu City. He mentioned in his interview that he is a big fan and it would be an honor to perform with Lea. He only plans to stay here for a week but promised to come back for the MTV "Staying Alive" Music Summit for HIV/AIDS on December 1.

I changed my intro music of JTOL, from Stacie Orrico's "More to Life" to Up Dharma Down "Maybe". Up Dharma Down is original pinoy music, unique beat/music and refreshing vocals. I don't have enough info on how the band started as well as lyrics, as soon as I get some I will surely post something here. Up dharma Down's debut album, "Fragmented" to be out by late November. Definitely looking forward to their album.

Updates on my Favorite Artists:

Lea and Rob are expecting, Lea Salonga- Chien is 7 weeks pregnant prior to the report of GMA 7's Saksi. I'm really happy for Rob and Lea, a very lucky baby for that matter. Lea has an upcoming concert in Cebu by the first week of December, if i'm not mistaken, with this recent update would she still continue the concert? I wonder. Hope she takes extra care of her self.

Savage Garden

Eversince the band dissolved I haven't been closely watching Darren Hayes solo career. In my opinion, I'm really glad he turned his hair color to black, it compliments the color of his eyes. It's more appealing rather than having it blond. I'm still really hoping and wishing that Darren and Daniel would be "Savage Garden" again. Listening to Darren Hayes new solo music, I still feel that there is something lacking... I really miss the band. The announcement of releasing "the best of album" was just a great news. I am definitely looking forward to the album.

Penciled In

I remembered to pencil in the 29th of May in my calendar "Adios" 12nn Channel 29. I'm officially hooked on watching boxing especially if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is playing, damn he is really good! Chavez Jr. TKO's Wynant in 42 seconds! in round 1.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Chavez Jr. with Jesus Chavez and Chavez Sr.

For Filipinos (especially the male species) boxing is considered a favorite sport , "a-must-see" event.
When I was little I recall my Dad and Uncle glued on the TV for several hours watching two people placed in a wrestling ring, punching and beating up one another and I thought where is Hulk Hogan??!!?? Whahaha! I was a wrestling fanatic at the age of 5 and Hulk Hogan was my favorite. My Dad explained that they were watching "Boxing" and not wrestling. I didn't know the difference it all looked the same, the ring and the referee and all... except that they were punching and not all over each other. I said "Nahh.. ang panget naman nyan! wala si Hulk Hogan".

Since then I really didn't like watching a boxing match until... I saw the Morales vs. Pacquiao Match. Seeing him for the 1st time, 19 yr old Chaez Jr. , I doubted his abilities and he proved me wrong, looks can be deceiving. Chavez Jr. won against Ryan Maraldo, (TKO) Round 3 . Julio Ceasr Chavez Jr.'s current Record: 19 Wins, 14 KO's, 0 Losses.

Looking forward to 30th of July: Superstars Christy Martin and Lucia Rijker will collide in Top Rank's "Million Dollar Lady" showdown with the winner to collect $1,000,000 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The undercard will feature WBC #1 rated flyweight Jorge "Travieso" Arce of Los Mochis, Mexico. Arce, coming off a riveting, all-heart, sensational performance in an eliminator win over Hussein Hussein ( It was a bloody fight!) , will face long-time WBC champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand.

and of course.... as a special added attraction undefeated teenager Chavez Jr of Culiacan, Mexico will box in a six-round bout.

Lea Salonga: Star Strucked

At the early age of 4 I discovered that I like to sing and appreciate listening to music. I'm a BIG fan of Lea Salonga. It all began when I was 6 yrs old, TV (and Barbie dolls of course) was my world. Being a Manilyn Reynes fan, (c/o of my yaya Vilma at that time, I was gullible) I was browsing through different channels in search for one of her shows (and before there were only a few channels) Low and behold I heard the loveliest voice singing "The sun will come out, tomorrow So you gotta hang on 'til tomorrow Come what may... Tomorrow, tomorrow I love ya, tomorrow. You're always a day away" and ever since I ditched Manilyn Reynes obsession for the Classy Lea.

I always asked my dad to buy me an album of Lea. After 2 years of ranting i finally got what i wanted, HEHEHE ;) my Dad was probably convinced that I really admired Lea Salonga, it was not just a "passing thing/stage". I didn't get the chance to watch "Miss Saigon" and i was really upset. I had to make-up for that! so i watched her concert last year "Songs from Home" and got really good seats plus an autograph!!!! I was star strucked. It was so real that I can't even believe that it was happening, I got to meet MS. LEA SALONGA! She was like an arms length away from me. I was speechless. As soon I was inside the car, I kept on raving on just what happened. I'm planning to watch Baby the Musical this Aug- Sept and i'm really excited.
